Exercise 3: Creating a simple blog in PHP & MYSQL

Create a MySql database and table. You can call them whatever you want but I suggest something short and relevant, you’ll need to note this for when you connect to it with your PHP script(s).

Once you’ve created your database table, you will need to add the following fields to it

– Id

– Date

– Title

– Content

– Author

Now fill the table with data. This data represents the blog posts.

Now that the table has data, create a web page or pages using, PHP, HTML and CSS that will display this data in blog format. Use Photoshop to design the overall look of the blog (keep it simple).

Exercise 2: Basic PHP

Create a PHP script that takes two numbers as input and selects the greater of those two numbers.

Create another PHP script that uses conditionals (e.g. if/else) and logical operators (e.g. && or ||) to determine what message to output to the user. For example you can write a script that will output the message “You have great taste in music!” if the user selects David Bowie or Kraftwerk from a list of musicians. You can be as creative as you want to be as long you are using logical operators and conditionals.

Exercise 1: Narrative Rupture

Choose a familiar and simple story or make one up. It can be as mundane as getting up in the morning and going to brush your teeth.

First tell or show it in the conventional way. Then change it by altering one (or more) of the characteristics of the story (eg. point of view, time, sequence of events, etc.). Experiment in this way three times so you have the original plus three altered versions.

Choose one of the versions that appeals to you the most and present it for discussion and critique. You will be showing the original and one altered version. Have the other versions with you to show. What is it about this version you have chosen that makes it stand out?

You will use the web/hypertext as your medium. Feel free to include any media you which: text, photos, video, etc, or any combinations thereof.
